Look: NoH8 And GLAAD Rally Around Bullied Transgender Homecoming Queen
Cassidy Lynn Campbell last week was crowned Homecoming Queen by her conservative Orange County, California high school. She was thrilled. “I was so proud to win, not just for me but for everyone out there,â€Â Cassidy Lynn said upon winning. “I think it really shows the progression of the times.â€
Fast forward just a few hours, and the hate attacks began. Campbell broke down in a YouTube video, denouncing all the “negative and ignorant†comments and responses to her winning the crown. “I’m so sad, I’m so distraught and so broken down and so upset and so deteriorated and so tired of the world.â€
And then, just days later, American Family Association spokesperson Bryan Fischer attacked, saying Campbell “has a mental illness” because she is transgender. keep in mind, Campbell is just 16 years old. (Please sign our petition: Tell The American Family Association, ‘Kids Are Off-Limits’)
Fortunately, the LGBT community has shown Campbell a lot of love.
Adam Bouska created this beautiful NoH8 image:
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));
Â
The National Center for Transgender Equality started a Stand With Transgender Homecoming Queen Cassidy Lynn Campbell petition.
And yesterday, Campbell was the talk of the town at GLAAD’s trans visibility panel, which featured athlete and advocate Kye Allums, Orange Is The New Black’s Laverne Cox, and activist and writer Reina Gossett.
Cox sent Campbell a message of love on Showbiz Tonight:

And she sent her this tweet:
So happy Cassidy Lynn @xocassidylynn reports that she’s doing better. Continue to send her your love. Show her love conquers the haters
