Look: Former President Bush 41 Serves As Official Witness At Same-Sex Wedding

Former President George H.W. Bush (W’s dad) was the official witness at the wedding of Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen. The same-sex couple, owners of a general store in Kennebunk, Maine, are friends of the Bushes. The former president, who served from 1989-1993 is now 89-years old.

The former Republican president’s office told the Washington Post the Bushes were merely “private citizens attending a private ceremony for two friends.”

The Post also noted, “yes, President Bush always shows this much style with his socks.”

The couple posted to Facebook the above photo, with the comment, “Getting our marriage license witnessed!”

President George W. Bush , who served from 2001-2009, has had little to say on the issue of same-sex marriage, despite his wife’s claim to have been a supporter even when she was the First Lady.

In July, “W” caused a bit of a stir when he responded to a question on same-sex marriage by saying, “I shouldn’t be taking a speck out of someone else’s eye when I have a log in my own.” He added, “I meant it’s very important for people not to be overly critical of someone else until you’ve examined your own heart,” but insisted he was not taking a stand or making a statement.
