Look: Every Lawmaker At House Hearing On Nationwide 20-Week Abortion Ban Is A Man

Male Congressional Republicans are hell-bent, once again, on violating the Constitution and restricting women’s access to abortion. This morning, in an eerily, similarly-looking hearing to last year’s congressional hearing on birth control, a room full of (mostly) old white men are sitting in judgment of a women’s right to choose.

The image above was taken this morning and posted to Twitter by Huffington Post Politics reporter Laura Bassett. She writes, “Well this looks familiar: every lawmaker at the House hearing on the nationwide 20-week abortion ban is a man.”

The hearing of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, was chaired by radical right wing Tea Party Republican Trent Franks. Franks, a birther and climate change denier, is using the case of illegal abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell to introduce a bill to deny legal and safe abortions for women — who will then be forced to seek out other Kermit Gosnells, creating a vicious cycle fueled by Franks’ ignorance and misogyny.

Franks, by the way, in 2011, claimed that straight marriages deserve “special” rights, and that gay marriage is a “threat to the nation’s survival.” He also said he would “absolutely…support” the impeachment of President Obama over the DOJ’s refusal to defend DOMA in court.

Bassett notes Franks’ bill “would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy across the United States, without exceptions for rape, incest or health of the mother.” She adds:

Franks said that he hopes President Barack Obama will stand up for fetuses in the same way he stands up for the nation’s poor and sick. “He is their president and they need him so badly,” Franks said.

In February of 2012, this image, below, of the Darrell Issa-led House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing on birth control, went viral, as it demonstrated exactly what’s wrong with how, and who in government decides what’s best for women.

Erin Gloria Ryan at Jezebel last year put it this way: “Congressional Birth Control Hearing Involves Exactly Zero People Who Have a Uterus.”
