LGBT: UK Christians Angered Police Stations To Display Rainbow Stickers

A UK-based Christian group is angry that police stations in North Wales are voluntarily choosing to display rainbow stickers at their front desks in a show of support to the LGBT community. Andrea Williams of the group Christian Concern is attacking the decision, because, she claims, there are more Christians than members of the LGBT community.

“What would happen if North Wales Police had decided instead to display a cross at each of their stations? Such a move would be swiftly condemned by the politically correct lobby.

“There is increasing hostility towards the public display of Christian symbols in this country, as many of our cases demonstrate, yet here we have the display of symbols which celebrate homosexuality being lauded as promoting ‘equality’ and ‘diversity.’”

“It is deeply concerning that we have arrived at a point in society where the cross, a symbol of hope and forgiveness, is deemed offensive and a symbol of homosexuality is welcomed, whilst according to the latest official figures only one and half percent of people identify as homosexual or bisexual and nearly 70 per cent identify as Christian.”

Lost on Williams is the fact that minorities are often most affected by crimes, and the least-likely to report them, for fear of harassment or intimidation.

Chances are good that a Christian walking into a police station would not fear being perceived as a Christian, but someone who is LGBT — historically, with good reason — might fear being perceived as LGBT. And members of the LGBT community are at far greater risk of being victims of crimes, than are Christians.

The Christian Telegraph adds,

PC Manus Sheridan of the North Wales Police Gay Police Association, said: “Some individuals, for a number of reasons, may feel apprehensive of approaching the police to report incidents.

“It is essential that all members of the community feel confident enough to enter our stations to report any incident, whatever background they are from.

“This initiative is a further sign of our commitment to the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community that NWP are here and can be trusted to deliver our service without prejudice.”

The head of diversity development at North Wales Police, Greg George, further commented: “The force is committed to tackling all crimes including homophobic hate crime and the stickers, which will be placed in all front counter areas, are a further symbol of our pledge.”

Via the Christian Concern website:

“Sexual orientation is being given increasing protection under equality legislation. Unfortunately this has led to serious consequences for Christians. Although both religious belief and homosexuality are protected in some ways under equality law, these two strands are often incompatible with one another.”

Christian Concern is on Facebook. Apparently, they participated in some convention where they sold tee shirts proclaiming they are “not ashamed” to be Christians (image, top.)

That Facebook page, by the way, links to an article which they offered the comment, “When homosexual parenting arrangements go wrong.”

They, in fact, very much should be ashamed.

Around the world, Christians are taking on the mantle of victimhood, despite the fact that they represent the majority in many countries, and despite the fact that often, a select few of them are the ones perpetrating hate crimes against the LGBT community, often in the name of their religion. Let me be clear — a select few, not most, not all. Sadly, a few bad apples have stolen the good name from the majority. It’s time for the majority of good people of all faiths to stand up and show their support, both for the LGBT community, and against those that give their religion a bad name.
