While good ole W. may still be reviled, and rightly so, there’s a small but growing wave of empathy (yes, that nasty Obama Socialist term) among the masses for Laura Bush. She even won favor among the Left recently when she wrote in her memoir that she asked her husband, George, to not use gay marriage as a wedge in his 2004 reelection campaign.
Well, I’d like to remind folks of a few things.
One, she married him.
Two, he did use gay marriage and as a wedge issue, which won him reelection. It was a nasty, hateful, despicable, ugly, immoral campaign and it was created by, yes, Karl Rove. I don’t remember hearing her speak out against the “tactic,” nor in support of “the gays,” do you?
Three, she’s as much a Republican as any other. Probably a lot more.
(Stow the empathy, folks.)
So, what does Mrs. George W. Bush do to hawk her book? Why, join Twitter! Everyone’s doing it!
So Laura Bush joins Twitter, and the first thing she does is follow FOX News. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Need to make her new social media hangout feel just like home. Let’s not forget, FOX is the home to the gay-hating Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, and Sean Hannity, for starters. Then, there are the frequent ramblings of anti-gay Newt Gingrich, and Sarah Palin.
The former first lady followed, in order, FOX News, The Wall Street Journal, Greta Van Sustern, Komen For The Cure (Breast Cancer not-for-profit,) Arzurugs (a not-for-profit,) Teach For America, and, of course, Karl Rove.
