Kirk Cameron: Calling Gays ‘Destructive And Unnatural’ Is ‘Love Speech’

Kirk Cameron is now claiming that labeling gay people “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization,” and “unnatural,” is actually “love speech,” not hate speech. Cameron, who won the hearts of the radical religious right for his anti-gay hate speech during his appearance on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” in March, delivered a speech to students at Jerry Falwell‘s Liberty University last week, and added that persecuting gay people is merely something Christians should do to “bear witness and testimony to the God that loves you and has saved you.” Cameron claimed he has been persecuted by the left ever since his appearance on Piers Morgan.

Cameron said of his CNN appearance that he was the victim of “loaded questions,” including, “what you think of homosexuality?,  what you think of gay marriage?, what you think of abortion even in the cases of incest and rape?, what you think of the Catholic Church having to pay for contraception against their moral conscience?, and who do you think will make the best president for the next four years?”

Cameron says when you persecute gays you “speak the truth in love.”

“The truth is always love speech, it’s not hate speech. The truth, communicated with compassion, with the desire to see people in a right relationship with God, helped, and healed, and whole, is the most genuine form of love speech you can give to anyone.”

Later in his speech, Cameron promoted his movie about the Puritans who settled in Massachusetts Bay and claimed they supported “limiting the powers of government” and “religious and political freedom, freedom of speech.” Unfortunately for the students at Liberty University, founded as Liberty Baptist College, they didn’t learn that under the Colony’s law those who “openly condemne or oppose the baptizing of infants,” a central doctrine of the Baptists, “shall be sentenced to banishment.”

So while Cameron holds the Massachusetts Bay Colony as a model for the contemporary U.S., the colony’s Puritan government held that “Idolatry, blasphemy, heresy . . . are to be restrained and punished by the civil authority.”

For the record, Cameron calls homosexuality a “behavior,” and says “just because you feel one way doesn’t mean we should act on everything we feel.”

“Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve,” Cameron also told Piers Morgan. “One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either. So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.”

Love speech.
