Killer In Anti-Gay Hate Crime Laughed As He Told Cops: ‘I Shot Him In The Face’

The gunman who shot and killed a 32-year old gay man Friday night in New York City’s Greenwich Village reportedly laughed as he confessed to the police, “I shot him in the face.” Elliot Morales, 33, was caught within minutes by the NYPD as he fled the scene, after taking a silver .38 out of his pants and firing one fatal bullet into Mark Carson‘s head.

The media fortunately has decided that this anti-gay hate crime murder deserves some attention. Perhaps it’s because anti-LGBT hate crimes are up a shocking 77 percent this year, or perhaps it’s because Carson’s murder is the fifth violent anti-gay hate rime in New York City over a period of less than two weeks.

“It’s quite ordinary to see gay men holding hands in the streets of the neighborhood, which makes the murder of 32-year-old Mark Carson, walking with a friend just after midnight on Sunday, that much more horrifying: the killing was both targeted and random,” Alexander Abad-Santos at the Atlantic Wire reports today, adding:

Any gay man in New York could have been Carson.

The New York Daily News reported, “As he was being restrained on a sidewalk, he laughed and boasted: ‘I shot him in the face.'”

Today, starting at 5:30 PM EDT, the LGBT community, allies, politicians, and community leaders will convene at New York City’s historic LGBT Center in Greenwich Village to march in protest of this recent wave of anti-gay hate crimes.
