John F. Kennedy, the first American President born in the 20th century, the youngest elected to the office, and our only Catholic President, was shot and killed forty-seven years ago today.
In this clip of a speech made before the 1960 election that put him in the White House, Kennedy had to explain and defend his religion and tell America that neither he nor his office would be dictated to by the Pope, Rome, the Catholic Church, or any of its representatives.
Perhaps political figures of all faiths should repeat these words today.
We’ll be honoring the nation’s thirty-fifth president all day today.
Come back for more.
