Irony 2012: Obama Guilty Of ‘Race-Baiting’ Says AZ Governor Jan Brewer
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, who signed into law SB 1070, a racial-profiling anti-immigrant law, is accusing President Obama of race baiting and “pandering” for the Latino vote.
Via Talking Points Memo:
Brewer chalked up the GOP’s low standing among Latino voters to pandering on the part of President Barack Obama. Appearing on “POLITICO LIVEâ€Â at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., Brewer said Obama has ignored border security in favor of winning more Latino votes.
“He panders to them,†Brewer said. “Look what he’s done: he hasn’t secured the borders.â€
…
“I think President [sic] Romney believes in the rule of law, and he knows and understands†Brewer said. “When he becomes president, I think we’re going to be able to solve a lot of these issues.â€
She also contended that Democratic charges of racism directed at border hawks within the Republican Party are unfair.
“It’s all the time, that we’re race-baiting; it’s all the time, you know, that we’re bigots,†Brewer, who added that Obama is also guilty of race-baiting on the issue.
What proves Brewer’s bigotry is that she sees Hispanics and Latinos merely as immigrants — and undocumented ones at that. Her “securing the borders” comment proves it.
A representative of the uber-conservative Heritage Foundation two days ago said that voting is a “privilege,†and suggested it is not a right. Israel Ortega, who “serves as The Heritage Foundation’s chief spokesman to Spanish-language news media,†told MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry that voters should prove they are “legitimate,†by being forced to present photo ID and other state-licenses in order to be able to vote. Ortega also said, “voter suppression, if it’s real…†suggesting it’s not.
