Yesterday afternoon, about one hour after the U.S. Senate’s failed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal vote, blogger Joe.My.God. reported that someone had left the comment, “All faggots must die” on his DADT cloture vote post. Needless to say, Joe got busy. He traced the IP address which, as it turns out, belongs to GOP Senator Saxby Chambliss’ Atlanta office.
The Senator’s office has admitted they are investigating if the offensive remarks came from their office’s internet connection, which is a federal government ISP and labeled, “United States Senate.”(Originally, it appeared the Senator’s office had confirmed, but Joe now says they are “not taking responsibility yet.”
Back in February, Chambliss said allowing openly gay people in the military would conflict with “the armed forces’ high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion.”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Jim Galloway reported the story, and contacted the Senator’s office, which now says,
“We have seen the allegations and are moving quickly to understand the facts. This office has not and will not tolerate any activity of the sort alleged,†Chambliss spokeswoman Bronwyn Lance Chester said. “Once we have ascertained whether these claims are true, we will take the appropriate steps.â€
