Illinois Marriage Vote Today? LGBT Leaders Assembling In House Now

Could Illinois vote on a same-sex marriage bill today? With the legislative session drawing to a close, there’s little more than 24 hours for them to vote.

The Chicago Phoenix, which posted the above photo to their Facebook page, reports:

Although Rep. Greg Harris has not said he will call the marriage equality bill up for vote today, LGBT rights advocates and other supporters are assembling in the House gallery now. Pictured: Randy Hannig, Jr. of Equality Illinois (left) and Ed Yohnka of the ACLU of Illinois (right).

Harris represents Illinois’ 13th District, Chicago, and is the marriage bill’s chief sponsor.

“If the House approves the bill this week, Gov. Pat Quinn — another strong supporter of marriage equality — plans to quickly sign it into law, making Illinois the 13th state to offer equal legal recognition of gay and lesbian nuptials,” the Chicago Phoenix reported this week, noting supporters fully expect a vote this week. Whether or note the bill has enough votes to pass is unknown.

Stay tuned!
