Illinois Could Be One Step Closer To Extending Marriage To Same-Sex Couples Today

The Illinois House Executive Committee is scheduled to vote today on a same-sex marriage bill, which passed the senate two seeks ago by a staggering 34-21 margin. The calendar puts the vote at 3:00 PM Central Time today (4:00 PM ET), and we’ll try to have live streaming video for you if they make it available. Check back here later this afternoon.

If the bill passes through the committee, its next step presumably would be a full House vote. It’s unclear if there are enough votes in the House to pass the bill, but if there are, Illinois Democratic Governor Pat Quinn has said he will sign it.

Illinois could become the tenth state (eleventh including Washington, D.C.) to extend marriage to same-sex couples.

Stay tuned!
