If The Republican Almost-First Lady Can Support Marriage Equality, Why Can’t Michelle Obama?

I have to admit, when I read Megan McCain’s tweets earlier today, saying,

“I couldn’t be more proud of my mother for posing for the NOH8 campaign. I think more republicans need to start taking a stand for equality…and civil rights in this country and set the example that this is not a partisan issue”

I was like, meh. But then I saw the photo, and I thought, “GREAT!”

Thank you, Cindy McCain for supporting equality, especially given your position in politics.

So, if the Republican wife of the Republican 2009 presidential candidate — the woman who almost was this country’s first lady —  can come out in support of equality, why can’t the Democratic wife of the Democratic president? I’m the last person to criticize Mrs. Obama for her extraordinary efforts. I’m just asking her to add one more cause to her list.

Thank you, as well, to Meghan McCain for her unwavering support. It’s great to see that politics doesn’t trump civil rights.

Now, if we could just get John McCain on board…
