If Anyone Needs ENDA It’s Conservative Christians, Not Gays, Says Tony Perkins
Tony Perkins says that it’s conservative Christians, not LGBT people, who need ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act which sailed out of a Senate committee yesterday by a huge margin.
“How many of you would feel comfortable dropping off your kids in a school that encouraged faculty cross-dressing?,” Perkins asked in his daily anti-gay email last night. “At least three Senate Republicans would. Today, those leaders — Sens. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), and Lisa Murkowski (R-Ak.) — threw their support behind a bill that would force sexual confusion on almost every classroom, day care, and summer camp in America. Insisting the legislation is just a harmless little ‘anti-prejudice’ bill, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted 15-7 to make employees’ bedroom habits a preeminent consideration in hiring, firing, and promotion decisions.”
Really? “Employees’ bedroom habits”? It’s absolutely amazing that Perkins is actually the head of a $13 million organization with lavish offices in the heart of Washington D.C.

The head of the anti-gay hate group Family Research Council and a frequent guest on cable news channels, Perkins apparently forgets that there’s an entire federal agency, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), that enforces all the federal laws that already exist, “that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.”
Notice that EEOC statement does not mention sexual orientation or gender identity, but Perkins would prefer his followers didn’t think about that.
“Of course, the irony of all this is that if anyone needs workplace protections these days, it’s conservative Christians,” Perkins perversely proclaims. “Under ENDA, their nightmares will only intensify.”
Yes, it must be absolutely terrifying being a conservative Christian in today’s America, knowing that you’re part of the vast majority of Americans, 73 percent, who self-identify as Christians, knowing that there are vast numbers of laws that exist to protect your chosen belief system — even if you don’t actually practice it. Imagine the “nightmares” conservative Christians must be having, especially believing, however falsely, that this nation was built just for them.
But not even a long-time servant to this nation’s elite Navy SEALs gets a pass from the oddly-prurient Perkins:
“The ENDA bill is going to mean a lot to me,” said transgender and ex-Navy SEAL “Kristen” Beck, “Just for the pure fact that I can show up for work in a dress…” If not, homosexual and transgender activists will be able to use ENDA to sue employers into submission on an agenda that could cost them millions of dollars in lost business and costly litigation.
As FRC’s Peter Sprigg explained on CNN, employers will be staring down serial lawsuits from disgruntled workers whose dismissal may have had nothing to do with their sexual behavior! They could sue “for ‘discrimination’ over a characteristic or sexual preference which is not even visible and of which the employer may have been unaware. In the case of public employers, such laws at the local and state level have led to large settlements being paid at taxpayers’ expense.”
“They could sue “for ‘discrimination’ over a characteristic … which is not even visible and of which the employer may have been unaware.”
Yes, like being a conservative Christian — which is wholly protected by countless local, state, and federal laws, and by the EEOC — which does not protect people for being born LGBT.
