Huckabee: My National Day Of Prayer, Which Happens To Be Inauguration Day, Isn’t Political

Failed former Republican presidential hopeful and anti-gay activist Mike Huckabee, is calling for a national day of prayer, advertising it with images and quotes from past presidents, but is promising it’s not at all political. The event, created and promoted by Huckabee, who is also an ordained Southern Baptist Minister and Fox News host, is called “A Day To Pray,” and is scheduled for Sunday, January, 20, which is officially Inauguration Day, and one day after National Gun Appreciation Day.

“Join me for ‘A Day to Pray’, where we will ask God to grant our leaders, from the local school houses to the White House, the wisdom they need for the road ahead,” Huckabee writes on the Facebook event page. “We will gather to ask God for forgiveness and healing of our land and to bless our Country and her people. This will not be a political rally but a spiritual event and hopefully one that can help bring us together as we move forward as a nation.”

“A Day To Pray” follows in the footsteps of Huckabee’s “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day,” which was supposedly designed to support “traditional marriage” and Chick-Fil-A’s embattled president Dan Cathy, and protest extending marriage to same-sex couples. Huckabee later turned the “proceeds” of the event — a vast email and Facebook list — into an anti-gay get out the vote machine for Republicans.

The event page shows almost 650,000 invitees, with almost 100,000 accepted invitations.

Supporters include The Family Leader, the anti-gay group led by Bob Vander Plaats, who seemed to try to extract payment from Rick Santorum to “promote’ his endorsement in 2011, Lila Rose, the anti-choice activist, the Hispanic Prayer Network, faux historian David Barton, Skyline Church Pastor Jim Garlow, and the American Family Association‘s One Million Moms. Others are piggybacking on the event, and asking followers to make it a day of fasting as well.
