How Does The Discovery Channel Feel About Being Used By A Certified Hate Group?
I wonder how the Discovery Channel feels about being used by a certified anti-gay hate group. The Discovery Channel, officially Discovery Communications (NASDAQ:DISCA), is the parent company of TLC, or, The Learning Channel. TLC is home to the wildly popular series, “9 Kids and Counting,” about the Duggar family.
As reported, Josh Duggar has landed a new job as Executive Director of FRC Action, the activist wing of the Family Research Council. The FRC sits on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of active anti-gay hate groups.

So, as you can see in the video below, when Josh Duggar says “Hello, I’m Josh Duggar, from TLC’s ’19 Kids And Counting,'” you have to wonder how a nationally-traded company on the NASDAQ feels about him using their company’s name.
Duggar says “it’s a great honor” to be working for FRC Action, “promoting the values that have been close to the heart of my family for many years.”
Do those values include saying gay people “are intolerant. They are hateful. They are vile. They are spiteful,” and calling them “pawns” of the “enemy”? Does Duggar’s famiy values include falsely claiming gay men are more likely to molest children? How about comparing same-sex marriage to bestiality? Or saying “it’s a fact” that homosexuality leads to “eternal damnation”?
Because his boss, Tony Perkins, does — and supports and has said those very things.
In this video, an invitation to FRC’s annual Values Voters Summit — a gathering of the nation’s to religious right radicals and anti-gay politicians, including those in the image on the right, Duggar talks about opposing same-sex marriage and a woman’s right to choose.
Are those positions TLC and Discovery Communications want to come down in opposition to, also?
By the way, Discovery Communications includes 28 cable brands, including not just the Discovery Channel and TLC, but the Military Channel, Animal Planet, Discovery Fit & Health, the Travel Channel, and the Science Channel. They also have a relationship with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions for OWN.
What Josh Duggar does is of course his own business. But how many publicly-traded companies really want to be associated with a certified anti-gay hate group that has a long and embarrassing history of marginalizing and lying about LGBT people?
