Bradlee Dean, the anti-gay Christian rocker and youth minister, and founder and head of the certified anti-gay hate group You Can Run But You Cannot Hide International, has been ordered by a federal judge to pay Rachel Maddow‘s legal fees, and those of the Minnesota Independent, in his $50 million defamation suit, according to reports.

About a year ago, after filing a libel lawsuit against MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and the Minnesota Independent, controversial preacher Bradlee Dean sounded pretty confident. His attorney, Larry Klayman, even declared that Maddow’s career was effectively finished.
It turns out that might have been a little premature.
Though the case is still active, a Washington D.C. judge has ordered that Dean and his ministry, You Run But You Cannot Hide International, must pay Maddow and the since-defunct Independent attorney fees to the tune of $24,625.23, according to court records.Dean filed the suit last summer, arguing Maddow and the Independent’s Andy Birkey defamed him by taking an excerpt from his radio show out of context. The suit alleged the two journalists unfairly targeted him because they were at odds with Dean’s political views, specifically calling Birkey a “secularist and/or atheist and gay activist with a politically left ideology who despises people of faith, including but not limited to the Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.”

In March, Bradlee Dean’s Christian youth ministry, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide, and members of his “Junkyard Prophet” band, showed photos of aborted fetuses to junior high and high school students during a paid school assembly that drew national media attention.

Later in March, after The New Civil Rights Movement published “Iowa School Hires Hate Group To Preach Against Abortion And Gay Marriage,” we received an embarrassingly-worded yet seemingly-threatening letter from a representative of Bradlee Dean and his lawyer claiming there were “false and defamatory statements” in our article, demanding we remove the piece. Clearly, there were not, and we did not.
