Groundbreaking: 8 LGBT Leaders Unite For One Candidate

HRC's Joe Solmonese

If you’re gay and follow the news, you know the name “Patrick Murphy.” Rep. Murphy (D-PA) is the Congressman whose tireless efforts drove the bill to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” to victory in the House. (See: “Watch: U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy Announces “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Repeal Bill.”) If it were not for Congressman Murphy, there would have been no bill to send to the Senate to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Say what you will about the Senate (and its utter failure to pass the bill to repeal DADT,) but you cannot throw many darts at the House. Bottom line, Murphy is one of the greatest allies the LGBT community has ever had.

(Watch Rep. Murphy on The Rachel Maddow Show talk about “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”)

If you’re gay and follow the news, you also know the names of Joe Solmonese, Robin McGehee, Rick Jacobs, Pam Spaulding, John Aravosis, David Hall, Alex Nicholson, and Aubrey Sarvis. As this video says, these eight leaders rarely agree on anything (much to the chagrin of many in our community, and, no doubt, to these eight as well!) but they all came together to support the re-election of Patrick Murphy.

Share this video with others, please. And if you can, contribute to his campaign. It would be a huge loss for the LGBT community if patrick Murphy lost re-election.

By the way, Kerry Eleveld of The Advocate has an excellent piece, “Rallying Around Murphy,” about Rep. Murphy and this video. Take a look.
