GOProud On NPR Again Attacks “The Gay Left” As “The Most Intolerant”

GOProud Co-Founder & Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia on an NPR public radio member station Thursday once again attacked his Democratic, Progressive, and Liberal homosexual, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender brothers and sisters, and all our supporters. “That’s where we experience the most intolerance. The gay Left is, by far, the most intolerant toward us,” LaSalvia said on “The Brian Lehrer Show,” echoing his boilerplate rhetoric stump speech. “Us,” meaning, conservative gays.

“Are there some on the right who don’t like gay people? Sure,” said the former Log Cabin Republicans’ Director of Programs & Policy, totally ignoring centuries of harassment, condemnation, hate, hate crimes, oppression, etc..

Jimmy LaSalvia says “the vast majority of our critics are on the Left.” That’s for two reasons. First, the majority of anti-gay conservatives won’t say they hate you to your face. They’ll just do everything in their power to disenfranchise you if you’re gay, they’ll just do everything they can to oppress you, force you to remain a second-class citizen. Just not to your face.

Second, the Gay Right, if that’s what we are to call them, partner with the non-gay Right to disenfranchise you if you’re gay, to oppress you, to force you to remain a second-class citizen.

How can a gay conservative organization give an award to an anti-gay conservative politician? How can they endorse anti-gay politicians?

Jimmy LaSalvia claims there’s a large conservative gay vote. Those numbers, perhaps dubious, LaSalvia claims are “up for grabs.”

“More and more Republican candidates are understanding that, and making their case to gay voters.”

LaSalvia is living under a rock.

More and more Republicans are working to ban same-sex marriage.

More and more Republicans are working to ban women’s reproductive rights.

More and more Republicans are working to defend the unconstitutional law that is DOMA.

More and more Republicans are working to stop any gender equality bills from passing, including ENDA.

More and more Republicans are working to stop the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

More and more Republicans are working to add a ban to same-sex marriage into their state constitutions.

More and more Republicans are working agains the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community, despite all evidence that the public is supporting and embracing our community faster than ever.

LaSalvia’s defense of his defense of anti-gay conservatives is simply that “it comes down to what’s the role of government.”

The caller, who challenges LaSalvia at about the 13;30 mark makes some good points.

Oh. This image? That’s Jimmy LaSalvia lashing out at me for no apparent reason. I’ve never had a conversation with him, to the best of my recollection, yet I’m evidently fair game to be sideswiped.

Lastly, isn’t it ironic that LaSalvia agreed to appear on “The Brian Lehrer Show,” which is broadcast on WNYC, a member-station of NPR? While WNYC is largely independent of NPR, they are an NPR member station and they broadcast NPR content. NPR is publicly-funded public radio that conservatives are dying to defund.
