GOP Lt. Gov. Candidate: If You’re Not Christian You’re ‘Engaged In Some Sort Of False Religion’

Bishop E.W. Jackson, a Republican running for Lt. Governor of Virginia, says that if you’re not a Christian, you’re “engaged in some sort of false religion.” That would include those who practice Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and many other religions, as well as, in a sense, atheism — according to Jackson, at least. He also attacked same-sex marriage as an “idea that somebody came up with yesterday.”

“Any time you say, ‘There is no other means of salvation but through Jesus Christ, and if you don’t know him and you don’t follow him and you don’t go through him, you are engaged in some sort of false religion,’ that’s controversial. But it’s the truth,” Jackson said at a morning sermon on Sunday at the Restoration Fellowship Church in Strasburg, Virginia, according to the Washington Post.

Jackson has been rigorous in his extreme anti-gay agenda. The image above is from his Lt. Governor campaign, as you can see at the bottom.

The Restoration Fellowship Church’s pastor, Jay Ahlemann, told the Post that “Historically, it is a fact that this nation was founded by individuals who were Christians and wanted this to be a Christian nation. That’s truth. That is historical fact.” He added that Jackson’s comment “was not a political speech,” but “a Bible sermon,” and stated that “Those of us who are Bible-believing Christians are very proud of what he had to say.”

Virginia’s current Attorney General, Republican Ken Cuccinelli, is running for Governor. Both are considered to be radical religious extremists, anti-gay, anti-women, anti-choice, and both have had large challenges in the media.

But the Post did not report some of Jackson’s other comments from Sunday. The New Civil Rights Movement has located audio of the sermon just posted to YouTube, which you can hear below.

“We better stop trying to redefine the family… We need mothers and fathers in the homes, raising their children,” Jackson preached. “The family was ordained by God. We were ordained as one man and one woman in the bonds of holy matrimony. And Jesus said — and people say, ‘Well, in the Bible, Jesus never talked about homosexuality,’ but I beg to differ.”

Jackson also said, “What God has join together let not man put asunder. That sounds to me like a statement that God intended heterosexual marriage only.”

But Jackson assured the churchgoers that his comments were not about hating anyone. In an extreme example of his ignorance and hatred, Jackson said, “We in the church didn’t irritate the family, in order to irritate homosexuals,” as if LGBT people don’t have or want families. Jackson added, “the church has been in the closet, if you will,” for too long.

Jackson earlier this year claimed homosexuality is an “abomination in the sight of God” and chastised his congregation for voting Democratic, and for being “sinfully complacent.”

Last year, telling local church-goers that same-sex marriage leads to bestiality, Jackson said same-sex marriage leads to “Adam and a bull.”
