GOP Is Now Pro-Gay, Top Anti-Gay Groups Charge

Anti-Gay groups like the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), Mission:America, and the infamous certified anti-gay hate group, American Family Association (AFA) have come out attacking the GOP, claiming it is pro-gay. Maggie Gallagher’s National Organization for Marriage (NOM) in a fundraising email Friday claimed the Republican Party in New York “sold out the party’s base, the party’s principles, and the timeless institution of marriage,” while Linda Harvey’s Mission: America, and Bryan Fischer at the AFA are furious that the head of the gay GOP group, Log Cabin Republicans, is joining the RNC’s Finance Committee. Harvey on Friday said she wants Republican contributors to stop donating to the GOP, “until the sodomy lobby is shown the door.”

Labeling them “the so-called new ‘pro-equality Republicans’,” NOM now says it’s in “a fight to take back the Republican Party from the forces who wish to abandon marriage,” and who, “imposed gay marriage without a vote of the people!”

NOM’s email also attacks George W. Bush’s re-election campaign leaders — a rather risky move. Calling him a “republican elite,” NOM says, “Ken Mehlman, one of a network of Karl Rove protégés, boasted about how he used money to sway Republicans to vote for gay marriage.” (Same way NOM is using money to sway Republicans to vote against gay marriage, right, Maggie?)

“New York Republican elites with powerful national connections are now openly saying that abandoning marriage is the key to building the Republican Party!”

“I’m not making this stuff up,” the email continues, adding, “In politics, money talks. We do not have the billionaires on our side, the rich Republic mega-donors like Ken Mehlman pushing the party towards this disaster.”

Meanwhile, here’s more from Linda Harvey at Mission: America, who said on the radio last week, “Here’s my suggestion: True conservatives who are sickened and rightfully concerned about the promotion of homosexuality at every level in our culture need to send a clear message to the GOP national headquarters. We need to say no to donations from the Republican National Committee, when they call we need to tell them why. Until the sodomy lobby is shown the door, don’t give the RNC itself one dime.”

Harvey is not the only anti-gay right wing extremist all a-twitter over the on-boarding of R.Clarke Cooper by the GOP. American Family Association’s Bigot-In Chief, Bryan Fischer, nearly lost it on Twitter earlier this month over Cooper-gate.

How’s this for a Twitter-frenzy?

“Gay member of RNC finance team: GOP should “not take a position on social issues.” Note to true conservs: GOP just threw us under the bus.”

“Having a pro-gay activist become part of the GOP fund-raising machine is like inviting a slave-owner to be part of original GOP in 1854.”

“Time for conservatives to stop giving even one more dollar to the Republican Party? Its new finance guy doesn’t want GOP in social issues.”

“With gay activist on finance team, GOP to social conservatives: get lost. Without 3rd leg, stool falls over, GOP is history. 3rd party?”

Watching social conservatives bring their party down is hysterical.

Yes, the pro-gay GOP. I’m not making this stuff up, either.
