GOP Group Uses Image Of Murdered Ambassador’s Body In Anti-Obama Ad

The Broward County, Florida chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay GOP group, published a highly-offensive and irresponsible ad featuring an image of murdered Ambassador Chris Stevens‘ body, and attacking President Obama for not protecting “Gay/gay friendly American citizens.” Despite rumors from the radical right, there is no evidence or confirmation that Ambassador Stevens was gay, nor should the Obama administration’s role be to protect only “Gay/gay friendly American citizens,” but all American citizens, at home and abroad.

“If the Obama Administration isn’t going to protect Gay/gay friendly American citizens from the terror of Islamic radicalism, what makes you think they will protect us from Shariah law… ANYWHERE?,” the ad, parroting Tea Party and anti-Muslim rhetoric, reads, apparently channeling hate groups like those of Pamela Geller.

“Israel, regardless of anyone’s sexual orientation, is the one beacon of hope in the Middle East defending our communities human rights,” the advertisement, which was published in the Florida Agenda, an LBGT paper, adds. A source states that at least one other Florida paper declined the ad.

The ad gets so many issues — and spelling — wrong, and perpetuates the right wing’ false assertions that Ambassador Stevens body was dragged through the streets of Benghazi, when he was actually being taken to a hospital.

The ad is being denounced by the Stonewall Democrats, who stated:

“The Broward Log Cabin Republican Club of Florida has cravenly disrespected the life and legacy of a United States civil servant with this ad. Put bluntly, they have crossed the line of civil discourse and good taste by including an image of the corpse of slain US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens being carried through the streets of Benghazi, Libya. “Their shameless and callous use of the image of Ambassador Stevens’ body aside, the confused hatchet men at Log Cabin are conflating a number of unrelated issues in order to attack Democrats and President Obama. First, they latch onto right-wing rumors that Ambassador Stevens was gay and then they insinuate that President Obama is responsible for the attack because he did not protect the Ambassador from ‘Sharia Law’.

“Then, in a very bizarre turn, they state their support for Israel as a ‘beacon of hope’ in the Middle East and urge voters to, ‘support Israel in this hour of darkness: vote Republican!’ It is simply unimaginable to me how any political message, let alone the muddy and ludicrous message of this ad, in any way justifies disgracing the memory of a man who gave his life in service to his country. This level of depravity and moral indifference must not be allowed to enter our political discourse. “We call upon the Broward Log Cabin Republican Club of Florida to retract this ad and apologize to Floridians for subjecting them to this sort of degenerate messaging. We also call upon Log Cabin Republicans national office to repudiate this ad for the partisan detritus that it is.”

National Log Cabin Republicans president R. Clarke Cooper denounced the ad as “obscene,” “fallacious, simple minded and irresponsible,” and said he is “deeply embarrassed,” according to a report by Joe Jervis.

The Broward County Log Cabin Republicans support Congressman Allen West, who is both extremely anti-Islam and anti-gay. In 2009, they co-hosted an event where West was a key guest speaker. And last summer, the Broward County Log Cabin Republicans, unlike other local Florida LGBT groups and allies, refused to denounce West after he labeled a gay group, “intolerable individuals.”

Watch: Bill Barr Has Talked to Jan. 6 Committee Says Chairman

Bill Barr, the former Attorney General who served as then-President Donald Trump’s top protector, has spoken with the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.

Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS), asked by CBS News about a bombshell draft executive order directing the Secretary of Defense to seize voting machines after Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, said: “We’ve had conversations with the former attorney general already. We have talked to Department of Defense individuals.”

“We are concerned that our military was part of this big lie on promoting that the election was false,” Thompson said Sunday morning on “Face the Nation.”

“So, if you are using the military to potentially seize voting machines, even though it’s a discussion, the public needs to know. We’ve never had that before.”

The draft memo was never formalized or enacted, and it is unknown who wrote it, but it was part of a massive, hard-fought document collection given to the Jan. 6 Committee by the National Archives after the Supreme Court refused to block its release. Trump tried for months to keep his official White House records from being released.

Trump Instructed Michael Cohen to Make Sure Don Jr. Went to Jail Instead of Ivanka

According to a report from Business Insider, Michael Cohen admitted on Saturday that Donald Trump instructed him in 2012 to make sure that Don Trump Jr. be the one to take the fall instead of Ivanka Trump during an investigation by Manhattan’s district attorney into lying about property sales.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Alex Witt, Cohen recalled that the former president was concerned about Ivanka’s well-being if she was sentenced to jail and that Don Jr. would handle it better.

According to the report, Cohen told the MSNBC host, “You may recall that there was the district attorney’s case here for Trump Soho where it was either Don or Ivanka was in very big trouble as a result of lying about the number of units that had been sold.”

“And Donald said it to me – I mean I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t said directly to me – he goes ‘if one or the other has to go to prison, make sure that it’s Don because Don would be able to handle it, ” he continued.

Cohen later said that he doesn’t expect Ivanka to willingly appear before the House committee investigating the Jan 6th insurrection and claimed the first daughter would likely plead the 5th before explaining, “Ivanka is only interested in Ivanka.”

Trumps Could ‘Turn on One Another’ as Investigations ‘Go Up the Food Chain’: MSNBC Analyst

Former president Donald Trump and his family are facing “existential” threats from ongoing criminal investigations in New York and Georgia, according to MSNBC political analyst and Trump biographer Tim O’Brien.

“I think you’re going to start to see this vice squeeze in,” O’Brien said Saturday. “The Trumps will happily throw underlings under the bus as this gets hotter. I think the question is whether or not the family members will turn on one another as it goes up the food chain.”

“The Manhattan DA’s case has existential consequences to it,” O’Brien added. “Donald Trump and perhaps his children could end up in orange jumpsuits if that case goes the full route. That’s not going to be the case with (New York AG) Letitia James’ prosecution, that’s a civil case. I also think the Georgia case has an existential threat. Donald Trump acting like a 19th-century ward heeler, called up the secretary of state and said find me some votes, and there’s proof of that, there’s evidence.”
