GOP Congressman Mike Pence: SCOTUS Obamacare Ruling Just Like 9/11

Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Pence likened today’s Supreme Court ruling on “Obamacare” to the 9/11 attacks that killed 2996 people and injured more than 6000 others. Rep. Pence, a high-level GOP politician who is running to become the Governor of Indiana, made the comments during a closed-door GOP meeting, and later apologized.

Politico reported:

“My remarks at the Republican Conference following the Supreme Court decision were thoughtless. I certainly did not intend to minimize any tragedy our nation has faced and I apologize,” Pence said in a statement to POLITICO.

“Obamacare,” officially the Affordable Care Act of 2010 that Democrats passed without a single Republican vote, is the cornerstone of the President’s achievements and will help save the lives of thousands of people. Today the Supreme Court ruled the individual mandate is constitutional as a tax.

Tommy Christopher at Mediaite added:

Good on Pence for apologizing, but just to illustrate the level of derangement it took for Pence to make that comparison in the first place, take a look at what Rep. Pence had to say about those attacks a few months ago. This was no abstraction for Pence; he wasn’t sequestered safely in flyover country when those attacks took place, he was right there. Here’s hoping the Affordable Care Act contains a provision covering free chill pills for all Republicans:

Pence, who is an Evangelical Christian, was adamantly opposed to the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and has a 0% rating from HRC. Pence’s Democratic opponent in the Indiana gubernatorial race is John Gregg.
