GOP Congressman Key Speaker At ‘We Will Not Be Silenced By Faggots’ Tea Party Rally

Republican U.S. Congressman Louie Gohmert was the keynote speaker Sunday at a Patriots Day Tea Party rally in Boston, Massachusetts, that featured scheduled speakers from not one but two certified anti-gay hate groups. The Massachusetts Tea Party Coalition’s rally was expected to be so toxic that the Greater Boston Tea Party urged members to avoid it. And while Boston Police were on hand, they are now the subject of an investigation after charges of police brutality against a pro-LGBT rally that protested the anti-gay rhetoric of the Mass Tea Party rally.

Rep. Gohmert of Texas, who last year labeled President Obama’s jobs bill, “something nice he’s throwing out for gay folks,” and claimed it “takes a shot at traditional, conventional marriage,” also last year called President Obama an “Evil Emperor,” riding around in his “Darth Vader bus“ on a “magical misery tour.” But Rep. Gohmert, who calls homosexuality “adultery,” is best known as a purveyor of “terror babies“ paranoia.

Gohmert told the audience that “Obamacare means the government has the right to control everything,” but his presence was dwarfed by the presence of Rev. Scott Lively of Abiding Truth Ministries, one of the two Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) anti-gay hate groups that were invited to speak. The other certified anti-gay hate group invited to speak was Mass Resistance.

Lively is widely credited for sowing the seeds that created the “Kill The Gays” bill in Uganda, and amplifying anti-gay hate on the African continent. Lively is a “professional worldwide hunter of homosexuals and top proponent of ‘gay cure‘,” as Scott Wooledge at Daily Kos today described him.

Wooledge has an excellent report on yesterday’s Mass Tea Party rally. Of Lively, Wooledge writes that “no one was more excited about his attendance than Mass Resistance. He adds:

Mass Resistance is perhaps among the most radical and fringe of the 18 groups featured on Southern Poverty Law Center’s anti-gay hate groups list, which is saying a lot. In 2006 and 2007 they pushed a repeal of Massachusetts’s marriage equality:

The group proposed language that lumped sexual orientation (which includes heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality) in with criminal behaviors like bestiality and polygamy. During legislative testimony supporting the amendment, Camenker falsely claimed that no homosexuals died in the Holocaust and that the pink triangle the Nazis forced imprisoned gays to wear actually signified Catholic priests.

Lively is directly linked the infamous “Kill the Gays” movement in Uganda. In fact, he bragged in 2009 he’d detonated  “nuclear bomb against the gay agenda in Uganda.” What he opened was a pandora’s box of hate that reverberated through the continent.

And for this all, some Ugandans are actually asking Lively to pay for his crimes against humanity. He is facing a lawsuit in US Federal court over his activities in that country.

Calling Lively a “very, very bad man,” Wooledge writes that “the blood from David Kato’s murder is all over Lively’s hands, and the very least that can be done is his actions will haunt him for life, even it’s likely no court will ever hold him accountable.”

And Mass Resistance is already apoplectic that the “homosexual activists” showed up to confront their hate fest. Posting to their website, “Mob of homosexual activists overrun & nearly shut down Boston Common Tea Party event as police look on and do nothing.”

So, who uttered the “We will not be silenced by faggots,” comment? While it’s still unclear, reports state — and Wooledge writes — that the comment was made by a speaker on stage, over the P.A. system, in response to the pro-LGBT rally protesting the Mass Tea Party rally.

At the rally, one trans activist is charging police brutality. Will Kohler at Back 2 Stonewall writes:

Today I recieved an email from the Occupty Boston  protestor pictured above who who became a victim of brutality at the hands of the BPD and she recounts the details happened at the event and the anti-LGBT hate of the Tea Party.

The activist in the photo, right, described to Kohler in great detail the confrontation, including that “the officer in the picture approached me and said ‘okay, take your shit and get out of here’, shoving me back. I said to him ‘Don’t shove me.’ He then said ‘Don’t shove you!?’ and then choked me, for a short period of time. My comrades reacted pretty quick, taking those pictures, getting his badge number, etc. He was rough with several other people, grabbing one of my comrades’ phone out of his hand when he tried to take a picture etc.”

Via Facebook, Republican candidate for Congress Christopher Sheldon, and his Finance Director, Allan L Knowles, had RSVP’d that they would attend the Mass Tea Party rally. It is unknown if they did.
