Gays: Surprise! The Tea Party Doesn’t Like You.
Despite the Tea Party’s rallying cry of smaller government, only 16% of Tea Party supporters think gay couples should be allowed to legally marry, according to a wide-ranging New York Times/CBS News poll. Perhaps it’s that Libertarian streak some of them claim that pushes the number up to 41% who would support civil unions but not marriage. But a total of 40% would exclude same-sex couples from having any legal recognition of their union whatsoever.
