Gay NY State Assemblyman Danny O’Donnell Says ‘Mitt Gets Worse’

New York State Assemblyman Danny O’Donnell recorded this video for the Mitt Gets Worse campaign, which we announced last week. The campaign features profiles and testimonials from leaders in the LGBT community explaining their views about Mitt Romney. Most of them have had some intersection with Romney, so many of the stories are very personal.

The Mitt Gets Worse campaign is a super PAC partnership between two progressive icons – American Bridge 21st Century and Courage Campaign — “that aims to educate voters about Mitt Romney’s extreme anti-LGBT agenda.”

Here’s the transcript of New York State Assemblyman Danny O’Donnell’s testimonial (who recently married!), (which I took the time to transcribe because it’s important):

For the last 10 years I have devoted my life to fight for equality, to fight for children, to make our country a better, more equal place. There’re one thing I know for sure, that if we elect Mitt Romney, my life will get much worse.

My name is Danny O’Donnell, and I’m the first openly gay man ever to my elected to the New York State Assembly. As an Assembly member here in New York, I led the fight for marriage equality, getting my chamber to pass the marriage bill five times before it was signed into law, and I also wrote the most comprehensive anti-bullying bill in the nation, which went into effect July 1 of this year. As a state legislator I often look to other states to see how they’re addressing the problems in our society. So I looked to Massachusetts, wondering how they were dealing with bullying, and I was very distressed to learn that Governor Romney refused to send out a booklet to schools because it included protections for transgender children.

If you’re a member of the LGBT community,or if you’re a supporter of the LGBT community, or just somebody who believes that America means equality, one thing is very clear: With Mitt Romney as president, it will get worse.

Disclosure: Mitt Gets Worse has previously purchased advertising which has appeared on this site. I have made a personal contribution to the Mitt Gets Worse Campaign. The New Civil Rights Movement was not compensated for publishing this article.
