Gay Marriage Ban In Indiana Moves Forward

Gay Marriage Ban In Indiana Moves Forward.

The Indiana State Senate Judiciary Committee just voted 6-4 along party lines to move a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and civil unions into the full Senate for a vote. Given the Republican majority in the Senate, it is expected to pass, after which it would move to the Indiana House. The House has a Democratic majority, but other Democrats have also brought same-sex marriage ban legislation forward.

The ban on same sex civil unions traditionally have not been touched by other gay marriage bans.

The public would have to vote on the amendment in a referendum before it would become law.
