“A Gay Girl In Damascus” told the world she was a lesbian blogger in Syria. Turns out, “she” was a white middle-aged man in Scotland. The hoaxster who started and ran the blog, “A Gay Girl In Damascus” speaks on video of his motivations and explains why he deceived the world.
While Tom MacMaster, 40, an Edinburgh-based American student, may have had good intentions, but put lives at risk. The net result of his work, and of the now-we-know fake blog LezGetReal damages the credibility of journalism itself, and to me, that is unacceptable and unforgivable. More on that later. Stay tuned.
