Then read one from the National Organization For Marriage. Say, this one: “NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MARRIAGE TO FRED KARGER
NOM WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY POLITICALLY MOTIVATED HARASSMENT”
Maggie’s #1 attack dog, Brian Brown, throws a full-fledged temper tantrum, using words like ‘frivolous,” “harass,” and “intimidated.” But the best part is how Brown uses that oh-so-conservative tactic of accusing your opponent of your own evils.
Now, some background first. Maggie Gallagher’s National Organization For Marriage (NOM) is one of those 501(c)(4) groups that enter into the political and cultural arenas.
Gallagher is upset because Californians Against Hate (CAH) filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service. Turns out, Maggie’s not very good at record keeping — according to Fred Karger, the president of CAH. So, states like Maine and Iowa may be looking into NOM’s activities. And Maggie’s not very happy about this.
So, Brian Brown, NOM’s executive director, pitched a hissy fit and accused Karger’s CAH of NOM’s own evils. Like this:
Brown calls CAH “…a group whose sole purpose is to harass decent Americans who exercise their civil rights to peacefully and democratically act…” when in fact, the same could be said of NOM.
Brown tries to play the states’ rights card, and the democracy card, by saying, “The future of marriage is now in the hands of the people of Maine.” Well, that’s good, Brian, because NOM has spent an untold fortune infiltrating the state of Maine.
He goes on to say, CAH is “…a politically motivated anti-marriage hate group [trying] to misuse the law to attempt to divert a campaign from the important moral issues at stake.” And yet, isn’t that in fact what his own organization, NOM, is doing?
Brown finishes his little tirade by saying,
“The people of Maine and the American people will recognize a cheap shot when they see one.” That’s right, Brian, we do.
Then, lastly, “…the American people don’t like this kind of hate directed at supporters of marriage.†Well, guess what, Brian: We support marriage too. So much so, we want to be a part of it.
My advice, Brian? Get your own house in order. And grow up.
