FRC’s Ken Blackwell: Communist Obama ‘Dead Set’ On ‘Destroying Families’

Ken Blackwell, a senior fellow at the Family Research Council, speaking with FRC President Tony Perkins, painted President Obama as a communist “dead set” on “destroying families.” The conversation, which took place on Friday on FRC Radio’s Washington Watch Weekly, centered around the Republican National Committee’s draft platform that GOP delegates will be voting on next week in Tampa at the RNC convention. The RNC platform has been called the most-conservative ever. Blackwell is Vice Chairman of the Republican National Committee’s Platform Committee. He is also the Chair of a new super PAC called Defend Paul Ryan, created “to get out the truth about Paul Ryan and aggressively refute any smear-attacks from President Obama’s supporters.” The Family Research Council is certified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an anti-gay hate group.

Brian Tashman at Right Wing Watch (where you can hear the audio) published this transcript of Blackwell speaking. Listen to the almost dictionary-like descriptors Blackwell uses to describe — falsely — President Obama’s policies.

President Obama and his party want to transform our market economy into a government-controlled economy but most importantly, they are dead set on making sure that they transform our national philosophy founded upon the primacy of the individual and the supremacy of God to one founded on the primacy of the collective good and the supremacy of the central government. Our document, the GOP document, is a direct contrast; it provides the American people with a choice, not an echo. That is so important because there are two paths that we can go down: we can reinforce our fundamental belief that when we are God-centered, free men and free women and free markets can accomplish much and overcome most hurdles thrown in our way or do we want to go down the path of being a government-controlled economy, destroying families, replacing it with bureaucrat decision makers that would run afoul of what the founders of this nation envisioned 237 years ago.

…

In our 237th year as being an exceptional nation we are at risk of losing it all. We just can’t afford to have four more years of a President that one, doesn’t understand the nature of our exceptionalism, and two, has a worldview and a set of guiding principles that are in direct contradiction with what has made us an exceptional nation. I’ve always enjoyed the push and pull of the whole process, I think it’s now incumbent upon us to make sure that this is not a document that is put on the shelf and our candidates across the country can just let collect dust and ignore. There is a fault line from the Pacific to the Atlantic and one side are those who believe in big government and who believe that the family and God can be replaced by a supreme state government, and that’s a problem.

Blackwell, a former Ohio Secretary of State, who in 2008 tried to become the Republican National Committee Chairman but lost badly to Michael Steele, attacked General Colin Powell over Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, stating, “I think General Powell really doesn’t understand what happened this past election cycle, and in the previous one… This is a center-right nation.”

Blackwell suffers from a conflict of interest history:

Blackwell gained national prominence for his dual roles as Chief Elections Official of Ohio and honorary co-chair of the “Committee to re-elect George W. Bush” during the 2004 election. Allegations of conflict of interest and voter disenfranchisement led to the filing of at least sixteen related lawsuits naming Blackwell.

Also suffering from extreme homophobia, Blackwell “led the campaign for the 2004 Ohio Constitution Amendment banning state recognition of same sex marriage and civil unions.”

On Hannity last year, Blackwell tried to suggest that a gay high school teen was crowned Prom Queen because of Sesame Street indoctrination. He also tried to imply that our government and, somehow, Sesame Street, are part of a totalitarian regime that seeks to destroy the family and religion.
