FOX’s Ablow: Lesbian Hilary Rosen Can’t Let A Man Be Comfortable Being A Man

Keith Ablow, FOX News’ pop-psychiatrist who all-too-often violates medical standards, writes that Hilary Rosen is uncomfortable letting a man be comfortable as a man, and that’s why she “hates” Ann Romney.

Ablow, whom Media Matters today cited for “[v]iolating professional ethics standards by diagnosing a public figure without permission or a formal examination,” wrote that “psychologically, that only makes women like Hilary Rosen hate Ann Romney more.  Not only does she seem to be enjoying herself, and not only do her children seem to be happy and successful – but she actually allowed her husband to go out and make the money to support all of them. And that’s letting a man be comfortable being a man, too. And, to Hilary Rosen, that’s a cultural crime and psychological assault.”

Media Matters adds that “the column bears all the marks of a typical piece of Ablow pop-psychology,” and notes that Ablow is:

  • Peddling unscientific and sexist stereotypes about how men and women are supposed to behave
  • Using any excuse to take an unprovoked potshot at the Obama administration

It’s not just the Obama administration Ablow likes to take shots at.

Ablow has recently attacked international clothing retailer Benetton for its “Unhate” campaign, said Chaz Bono is trying to mainstream transgenderism, and said transgender people are just like heroin addicts and anorexics, wrote a scathing column, “Don’t Let Your Kids Watch Chaz Bono On ‘Dancing With the Stars,” and said transgenderism is not a civil right, and equated pedophilia with sexual orientation.

Calling Ablow’s column “ little more than a right-wing diatribe disguised as credible medical expertise,” Media Matters concludes, “The reality, of course, is that none of Ablow’s theories are based on any kind of accepted or legitimate psychological research,” and adds:

The real irony is that Ablow’s (barely coherent) argument undermines the premise of the rest of his column – that Rosen despises femininity and the “feminine role.” In fact, Ablow himself has frequently (and inaccurately) theorized that lesbian parents have a “discomfort with masculinity,” even encouraging their male children to identify as transgender in order to be “like both of them.” If Ablow’s ridiculous theories about lesbians are true, it seems unlikely that Rosen’s comments were motivated by a hatred of femininity.
