For Her Birthday, 14-Year Old Asks Maryland Senate To Vote No On Gay Marriage

Happy Birthday wishes to the 14-year old girl who Tuesday asked Maryland’s Senate to give her “the best birthday present ever” by voting “no” on a same-sex marriage bill currently in committee. The girl, Sarah, (she gives her full name in her audio testimony,) says she is home-schooled. Apparently, her parents are stuffing her mind with all sorts of incorrect information, and this is yet another example of why homeschooling is a bad idea.

Perhaps 14-year old Sarah would like to meet 14-year old Taylor, who tried to get America to boycott Girl Scout cookies. That didn’t work out very well for hear or for her family. The Girl Scouts, however, sold a lot more cookies!

“People have the choice to be gay, but I don’t want to be affected by their choice. People say they were just born that way, but I’ve met really nice adults who did change,” Sarah says. Really? I doubt that. “I really feel bad for the kids who have two parents of the same gender,” she adds, and concludes, somehow, “they have no idea what kind of wonderful experiences they miss out on.”

Really?

Really?

What “kind of wonderful experiences” could a child who has two moms or two dads possibly “miss out on”? I’m really at a loss. Perhaps mother-daughter dress up, but is that a reason to ban same-sex marriage? Is that a reason to ban a loving couple from marrying?

Not to mention, this is a bill about allowing same-sex marriage, not same-sex parenting. So, tell me why was her testimony allowed?

“It’s rather scary to think that when I grow up the legislature or the court can change the definition of any word they want,” the girl continued. “If they could change the definition of marriage then they could change the definition of any word.”

Really?

Really?

This is the kind of ludicrous stupidity that comes when children are home schooled. I know there are plenty of great kids who have received a proper education and there are plenty of kids who have special needs and have to be or are better off being home schooled, but by and large, home schooled kids are subject to an education of their parents’ making and that means they can be brainwashed like this 14-year old.

While we’re at it, how is it even possible that this 14-year old was allowed to testify? Who arranged this? What value does her testimony have, since she wasn’t raised by a same-sex couple. If the Maryland senate is basing its decisions on the testimony of 14-year olds then they have a really big problem. Perhaps they’ll have a 13-year old weigh in on the healthcare debate next?

Sarah — in reality, her parents —  apparently is under the mistaken impression also that children with same-sex parents don’t like their parents, or want a “mom and a dad.” She also seems to think that babies come from the store and this is a matter of just not buying one.

Babies already exist, and it’s beyond comprehension how anyone (paging Rick Santorum!) could think that children are better off living in an orphanage or in foster care, shuffled from home to home,  to home, rather than adopted by two loving people who actually want a child so badly, want to raise a family so much that they will pay a small fortune and tolerate all sorts of attacks and infringements that opposite-sex couples don’t ever have to give a thought to.

Or perhaps Sarah’s parents — because it sounded like she was reading a script, and if she wasn’t her parents certainly took 14 years worth of brainwashing and injected it every day into her head — thinks that two people should be banned from creating a child then raising him or her?

Happy Birthday, Sarah. I’m sure you’re not going to get your wish. My wish for you is one day, very soon, you wake up and recognize that everyone deserves to be loved. Even children without parents. And even gay people.
