Fischer’s Unconditional Love: Telling A Gay Child They’re On ‘Road Of Destruction And Death’

The radical Christian right is of the opinion that unconditional love is defined by telling the object of your affection the “truth.” And, sadly, their “truth” is that homosexuality is a “road of destruction and death.” At least, that’s Bryan Fischer’s “truth,” and one shared by many Christian extremists. So, of course, it’s perfectly in Fischer’s purview to deny any LGBT offspring he might have their truth, by sharing his own.

A caller to Fischer’s American Family Association radio show today mentioned Pat Robertson‘s comments from yesterday. The octogenarian televangelist had urged a mother whose teenager told her he is gay to be “understanding.” And then he urged her to find out if the teen was sexually molested by a coach. Because, that, apparently, to Robertson, is how gays are “made.”

Fischer told his caller that if he had a child who was gay, he “would love them unconditionally.”

But also, Fischer says, he “would appeal to them to make different choices with their sexuality,” and he “would appeal to them not to go down that road because it’s a road of destruction and death.”

Well, as long as he’s loving them unconditionally, I’m sure they’ll be OK.

Or, not.

Science, by the way, shows that children who are raised in conservative environments — regardless of their sexuality — are more likely to attempt suicide than their peers who are raised in more liberal environments.
