First Voting Results Are In — Obama Beats Romney 2 To 1

Residents of two small towns in New Hampshire for decades have had the honor of casting their ballots just past midnight. Fans of the West Wing likely will remember this scenario, and while the name of the town in the series is different, the idea is the same: democracy in action, people so inspired to execute their civic duty they do so the first minute legally allowed.

“President Barack Obama and his Republican rival, Mitt Romney, each received five votes in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire,” CNN reports, but adds, “since 1996, another small New Hampshire town – Hart’s Location – reinstated its practice from the 1940s and also began opening its polls at midnight.”

The result there? Obama 23; Romney 9

Which gives President Obama a total of 28 votes and Mitt Romney a total of 14 votes: a two to one edge.

Let’s hope it’s the shape of things to come.
