FiredBigBird Now Homeless And Fired After Twitter Suspends Account

Editor’s note: Read our update — “FiredBigBird Back With A Vengeance!

Did Mitt gets his mitts on the bird?

Mitt Romney at last night’s presidential debate told few truths, but one was that he would fire PBS. Romney, talking about the deficit early in the debate, said to moderator Jim Lehrer, “I’m sorry, Jim, I’m gonna stop the subsidy to PBS…. I like PBS, I love Big Bird — I actually like, you too — but I am not going to keep spending money on things [we have] to borrow money from China to pay for.”

As The New Civil Rights Movement and a gazillion other news outlets reported, some enterprising individual quickly created a new Twitter account, @FiredBigBird, and racked up at our last count well over 18,000 followers, all in the space of less than a few hours.

But today, @FiredBigBird is not only jobless, but homeless. @FiredBigBird’s Twitter account is “suspended,” without any explanation.

“FiredBigBird had more than 26,000 followers within 12 hours,” the Atlanta Journal Constitution noted this morning, unaware @FiredBigBird was forced to fly the Twitter coop. They added:

Meanwhile, the real Sesame Street gang tried to put out the fire by tweeting, “We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization. We do not comment on campaigns, but we’re happy we can all agree that everyone likes Big Bird!”

Despite the protestations, I don’t think the 8-foot-2-inch puppet has to worry. He’s been around since 1969 and surely, after starring in thousands of television shows, he has a giant nest egg.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of @FiredBigBird, please let us know…

Fortunately, others from the Fired Sesame Street crowd are still around:
