Today, the Presidents of the Family Research Council and its lobbying arm, FRC Action, speaking about rape comments made by embattled U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senate Republican candidate Todd Akin, offered both support to Akin and a threat to his GOP critics.
“We support him fully and completely.” Connie Mackey, president of FRC Action, the 501(c)(4) lobbying PAC arm of the certified hate group Family Research Council, told reporters.

“We feel this is a case of gotcha politics,” Mackey told reporters outside of the Republican National Committee’s platform committee discussions. “He has been elected five times in that community in Missouri. They know who Todd Akin is. We know who Todd Akin is. We’ve worked with him up on the Hill. He’s a defender of life. He’s a defender of families and this just a controversy built up, I think, it looks as though, to support his opposition. Claire Mccaskill on the other hand, has supported planned parenthood all these years, which is under investigation for use of funds, for cover up on statuatory rape and I think that Todd Akin is getting a really bad break here.”
Perkins and Mackey declined to comment on the substance of Akin’s controversial charge.
“I don’t know anything about the science or the legal implications of his statement. I do know politics, and I know gotcha politics when I see it,” Mackey added.
Perkins called the controversy an attempt to divert attention form McCaskill. “Claire McCaskill has been supportive of planned parenthood, an organization that has been under investigation for criminal activity,” Perkins said.
“For other Republicans, I have not seen Scott Brown’s statement, but he should be careful because based on some of his statements there may be some call for him to get out of his race,” Perkins added.
Asked what he was referring to, Perkins said that Brown has been “off the reservation on a number of Republican issues, conservative issues.”
Congressman Akin at this moment is either fending off attacks from his own party, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and the NSRC head, and has lost financial support from the Missouri GOP and even from Karl Rove, or actually making plans to withdraw tomorrow.
The Family Research Council last week became the nexus of news when a gunman entered their headquarters and shot the building manager/security guard in the arm.
The Family Research Council and the American Family Association, both Southern Poverty Law Center-certified anti-gay hate groups, blamed the SPLC for the hate label, claiming it gave license to the gunman to attack them.
Perkins later blamed President Obama and what he claims is the President’s “open season†on “religious freedom†were also responsible for the shooting at the Family Research Council.
So, the Family Research Council supports a man who claimed women don’t need to be protected by laws that will allow them to have an abortion in case they get raped, because their bodies prevent them from getting pregnant as long as their rape was “legitimate,” as long as they didn’t enjoy it.
And the Family Research Council is not a hate group? Seriously? Of course they are — and they are hell-bent on proving it almost daily.
