Today British MPs (members of Parliament) released a lengthy 125-page report that states News Corp.’s Chairman, Rupert Murdoch — the man who owns Fox News here in the U.S. — “‘is not a fit person to exercise the stewardship of a major international company.”
That alone says volumes about the ability of Fox News to be taken seriously. When the Chairman of an organization is deemed “unfit,” it’s not like you can remove him and everything gets better. Fox News and News Corp., in my opinion, are rotten to the core. My only sadness comes from the fact that the Wall Street Journal, which before Murdoch bought it was a somewhat reputable entity which in a former life I read daily, has now become fit for little more than fish wrapping.
Of course, Murdoch tries to obfuscate and minimize the MP’s report, with News Corp. releasing the statement, “The company fully acknowledges significant wrongdoing at News of the World and apologises to everyone whose privacy was invaded.” Problem is, the “wrongdoing” was not isolated to News of the World. The resignation of former News International chairman Les Hinton should be eyebrow-raising enough to make anyone suspect News Corp. itself is “unfit” to be in the business of journalism.
