Ellen Says Chris Kluwe’s Activism ‘Is How You Change The World’

Ellen Degeneres today via Twitter lauded Minnesota Vikings Chris Kluwe‘s activism supporting same-sex marriage and equality, and pointed to this his video, below, saying this “is how you change the world.”

Kluwe has been supportive of marriage equality publicly for several years, but caught the media’s attention when he wrote an open letter to Maryland Delegate Emmett C. Burns, who had written to the owner of the NFL Ravens, asking him to silence player Brendon Ayanbadejo‘s support of marriage equality.

Kluwe’s hysterical, yet very important letter began:

I find it inconceivable that you are an elected official of Maryland’s state government. Your vitriolic hatred and bigotry make me ashamed and disgusted to think that you are in any way responsible for shaping policy at any level.

but was far more evocative, and went viral.

Watch this video of Chris Kluwe talking about why marriage is marriage, regardless of the gender of its participants.

“It’s not the government’s job to tell us what to do. That’s not what America stands for. At the end of the day, this is an issue about freedom… and treating other people the way that you would like to be treated.”
