Double-Plus Good

I came across an AP story tonight, “NY Gov. Paterson to introduce gay marriage bill.” No surprise, but it included this paragraph,

“I think this is an attempt to gain momentum,” said the Rev. Jason McGuire, legislative director of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, which opposes the measure. “But the simple reality is this is a very controversial issue, especially with this talk about the Senate majority being as razor thin as it is.”

And I thought, “New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms”? That sounds great! Why would they say something terrible like that. So, of course, did a Google search, and, you know how when you do a Google search, the pages you’ve already visited show up as a different color font? Well, the Wikipedia page for Ruben Diaz showed up, and it was downhill from there.

Turns out, New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms is a 1984 name for, well, religious bigots who hate gays. How do I know? Their website tells me so:

“In April of 1982, a small group of pastors were concerned about religious liberties and moral values in New York State. Responding to this concern, these Empire State pastors founded New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, Ltd. (NYCF).”

So, what other “double-plus good” monikers are out here?
