Donohue Gloats His Pedophile Priest Enabler Convicted Of Only One Felony

In what may go down as one of the most tone-deaf, disgusting, inhuman press releases of the year, Bill Donohue and his Catholic League today responded to the historic conviction of a Philadelphia priest, the first American Roman Catholic church official to be charged for the handling of priest child sex abuse cases.

Father William Lynn today was found guilty in one of three felony charges, endangering the welfare of a child, for his responsibility in covering up child sex abuse cases.

But in 285 words, Donohue gloats the “witch-hunt has come to an end,” and claims “those who have been clamoring for blood lost big time.” Apparently, the fact that untold hundreds, maybe thousands of children in this priest’s parish, over decades upon decades, were raped, emotionally and sexually abused, had their innocence stolen, forever will live their lives changed by these atrocious acts escapades the 64-year old crusader for pedophile rights.

Instead of admitting the Msgr. William Lynn oversaw thousands of cases of abuse, and did little to nothing substantial to end the abuse and bring the perpetrators to justice, Donohue questions the methods of the Philadelphia prosecutor. And instead of admitting — or, even denying — the abuse took place, by men of God ordained to protect the innocent and powerless, Donohue points to a letter he wrote asking her “to identify which ‘religious organizations and denominations’ she pursued other than the Roman Catholic Church.”

In other words, Bill Donohue is effectively saying, “It’s OK, because every other religious institution rapes little boys and girls, too.”

(Right about now I know you’re hearing Frank Langella’s voice bellowing the infamous Richard Nixon outburst in “Frost/Nixon”: “I’m saying that when the President does it, it’s *not* illegal!“)

Donohue, who, by the way, pays the New York Times many thousands of dollars annually to run an ad defending pedophile priests, said in his statement today, “Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP), and church-chasing attorneys like Marci Hamilton, are today’s big losers.”

No, Bill, today’s big losers, are the thousands of children who were raped, assaulted, and emotionally and tragically changed forever, because with one or one million convictions, they will never, ever, be made whole.

Those children and now, those adults, Bill, will forever be the losers.

Can you ever begin to grasp this?
