Pay very close attention to the race for governor of Virginia over the next four weeks. Ken Cuccinelli, the rabidly anti-gay, anti-women, anti-freedom attorney general who is suffering from the same sins as current Virginia governor Bob McDonald — greed, envy, and pride — is about to go down in a huge defeat. But he’s not going down without a fight.

Disgustingly, the increasingly desperate 45-year old Republican Roman Catholic attorney general who begged the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold Virginia’s anti-sodomy laws, for the children, is now using his wife to do his bidding. As if his approval among women weren’t bad enough. Cuccinelli’s Democratic opponent has a 15-point lead among women voters.
“A priest friend of mine recently told me that he is concerned that there might come a day soon when he and his fellow clergy might face imprisonment for teaching the Christian morals from the pulpit,” a fundraising email from the Cuccinelli campaign reads. It is signed by Cuccinelli’s wife, Teiro.
What “Christian morals” might those be? The “inalienable rights to life and liberty,” Mrs. Cuccinelli writes. Shorthand: the right to hate the gays.
Now would be a good time to mention that Cuccinelli’s running mate is Pastor E.W. Jackson.
Calling it “classic Religious Right scare tactics,” Right Wing Watch notes, “despite right-wing hysteria to the contrary, there is absolutely no evidence for the claim that clergy will be thrown in jail for preaching “Christian morals†on issues like gay rights.”
“Our freedom of religion, our freedom of speech, second amendments rights, parental rights, and property rights are all slowly being strangled by our federal government,” her money beg begins.
“My oldest daughter, Alie, left a few weeks ago to begin her second year of college. She told me recently she might want to home school her own children one day. I wonder if Alie will even be allowed to home school her children if she desires to do so. President Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, recently argued in federal court that parents do not have a fundamental right to home school their own children.”
Of course, that’s just a flat-out lie.
The good folks at Right Wing Watch explain that Cuccinelli’s claim is “an apparent reference to a recent case involving a German family that was denied a request for asylum because Germany would not allow them to homeschool their family. Nothing in the case indicated that the Obama administration wants to restrict homeschooling in the United States.”
By why let facts get in the way of a good scare tactic?
Mrs. Cuccinelli concludes with a scary question. “What will the future look like for our children? I do not know the answer.”
Well, the voters of Virginia do. McAuliffe is leading in the polls by a strong margin, up to 10 points.
