Denying Women Abortion Rights Just Like Ending Holocaust And Slavery Says GOP Congressman

Tea Party Republican Trent Franks teamed up with hate group head Tony Perkins and announced that he believes denying women their constitutionally-protected right to choose to have an abortion — or not — is just like ending the Holocaust and slavery. Franks, a birther and climate change denier, somehow is also the Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice.

Today, Franks held a hearing — of course, the only lawmakers who attended were male — on his bill that would create a federal law banning abortion after 20 weeks. Similar measures have already been struck down as unconstitutional, but heck, when you’re ending the Holocaust and slavery, why let details like the Constitution matter, right?

Yesterday, however, Franks, Perkins, and anti-choice activist Lila Rose spoke on a Family Research Council webcast.

“We are the ones that rushed into Eastern Europe and arrested the Holocaust, we are the ones that said no more to slavery after thousands of years, and by the grace of God, we’re going to be the ones that say that we’re going to protect our own children,” Franks, a six-term Congressman from Arizona, told his cohorts.

Responding to Perkins’ asking what happens if his bill (which, remember, is both unconstitutional and will never pass the Democratically-controlled Senate, nor will President barack Obama ever sign it) fails, Franks responded:

“I would suggest to you that we undermine everything that America was ever dreamed of to be and we step into that Sumerian night where the light of compassion has gone out and the survival of the fittest finally prevails over man…If we turn our backs on this, I’m afraid we’ve broken the back of what America really is.”
