DADT Supporter Dick Cheney Wins “Conservative Of The Year” by “Doing It The Old-Fashioned Way”

“Human Events,” the self-proclaimed, “Headquarters of the Conservative Movement,” has named former Vice-President and professional Obama-detractor Dick Cheney as “Conservative of the Year.” The announcement was written by former President George W. Bush’s former U.S. ambassador to (and number one critic of) the United Nations.

Bolton writes an interesting tale, and re-writes recent history by claiming Cheney has “new clout,” which “he is achieving it the old-fashioned way,” by  “not dishing on former colleagues, not spreading gossip, not settling scores.”

Bolton seems to think (or perhaps he’s correct in thinking) that the award should be for someone who “can cause so much angst at the White House and in the mainstream news media,” which he says of Cheney.

Lest this become about the cantankerous Bolton, let’s look at Cheney’s record on LGBTQ rights:

Despite the well-publicized fact that his own daughter is a lesbian, despite having on record said, “Freedom means freedom for everyone,” Cheney believes marriage equality is a “states’ rights” issue.

Despite stopping U.S. military academies from banning gays, as Secretary of Defense he opted to retain “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

Cheney, who has twice been convicted for drunk driving, believes snowmobiling should be allowed in our national parks, and supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.

Oh, I could go on, but let’s face it: Cheney is the “Conservative of the Year” because he’s the highest-ranking Bush Administration official to take swings at Barack Obama.

Congratulations, Mr. Vice President.
