DADT Repeal: Tony Perkins Suggests US Military Leader Lied To Congress

Tony Perkins, head of the certified hate group Family Research Council (FRC), strongly suggests an unnamed American military leader lied to Congress in his testimony that supported repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The penalty for lying to Congress is five years per charge, and fines up to $250,000. The penalty for suggesting an unnamed American military leader lied to Congress in his testimony that supported repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, impugning the honor of America’s military leaders, sadly, is, nothing.

“There is also disturbing evidence that this administration has twisted the arms of a certain high-ranking military officer to get him to change his congressional testimony,” Perkins wrote in a statement yesterday, adding, “Congress should hold hearings to find out whether this happened during the debate over ‘Don’t ask, Don’t Tell’.”

Perkins, FRC notes, “called on Congress to hold hearings to determine whether the Obama administration exerted pressure on high ranking military officials in its rush to overturn the law, commonly referred to as ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’.”

In that same statement, Perkins wrote, “The American military exists for only one purpose – to fight and win wars. Yet, tomorrow, the U.S. military becomes a tool in reshaping social attitudes regarding human sexuality. Using the military to advance a liberal social agenda will only do harm to the military’s ability to fulfill its mission.”

Earlier, Perkins said, in the face of 6218 American service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, those deaths are inconsequential to the military’s challenge it will face upon the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

“In a matter of days, the U.S. military will be embarking on its most difficult mission yet: celebrating homosexuality in its ranks,” Perkins said.

In July, Perkins wrote, “I urge Congress to put the brakes on ‘repeal implementation’ to investigate this scandal, and to reverse the ill-advised decision of last year’s repudiated Democratic lame duck Congress.”

Perkins’ FRC was named a certified hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Perkins has been tied to the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).

In 2005 John Aravosis of Americablog wrote, “The Family Research Council’s executive director, Tony Perkins, reportedly paid former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke over $80,000 for his who’s-who-of-racist-America mailing list in 1996.

Apparently, there are no penalties for that, either.
