Connecticut state official state that all 20 children murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, yesterday were six or seven years old. There were 12 girls and eight boys, along with six adult women. The medical examiner, H. Wayne Carver II, said specifically “the long weapon,” a semi-automatic .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle, was used in the shooting and was found by the side of the gunman, along with two pistols, a Glock and a Sig Sauer.

“The 20 children and six women all died from gunshot wounds, and the victims of Friday’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary had a ‘very devastating set of injuries,’ Dr. H. Wayne Carver said at press briefing,” NBC New York reports:

The children were identified by photograph, Carver said, calling the mass shooting the worst thing he and his colleagues have seen.  Asked whether the deceased had suffered, Carver said, “not for very long.”  They were all shot with a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle.

“All the wounds that I know of at this point were caused by the one weapon,” the .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle, Carver, who personally conducted seven of the autopsies, said, according to CNN. Carver also states he believes all of the 26 victims were shot more than once.

“I believe everyone was hit more than once,” Carver said. “The seven bodies he examined personally had three to 11 wounds each,” CNN reports:
