Cops Shoot, Kill Armed 8th Grade Teen In Texas

Police have reportedly shot and killed a reportedly armed 8th grade teenaged boy in a small Texas town after school officials reported to police they boy had a gun. Reports claim the as-yet unnamed student, possibly 14 or 15-years old, “engaged” police, but there are not yet any accounts that clearly state the teen shot at police.

The students at Cummings Middle School were transported by bus to a nearby high school and their parents were notified to pick up their children there, after officials locked-down the middle school.

“An eighth grade student who was shot at Cummings Middle School this morning has died, Justice of the Peace Kip V. Johnson Hodge said,” reports The Brownsville Herald:

The judge ordered an autopsy.

According to police the student brandished a gun at school around 8 a.m.

BISD and Brownsville police responded. The teen engaged police, officials said, and was shot by a Brownsville police officer.

He was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville where he passed away from his injuries. There is no word yet on his identity.

One additional student was detained for questioning.

A school administrator apparently noticed the student carrying the gun and called Brownsville and school district police, Trevino said.

He said investigators hadn’t determined whether the student fired any shots, and he said he had no information on why the student might have had the gun on him.

“It’s still under investigation, as far as how he came about to bringing the weapon or if he encountered anybody or anything else,” Trevino said.

The school’s handbook calls for the expulsion of any student who brings a gun to the school.

Every year, 100,000 Americans are shot, and 10,000 Americans are killed as a result of gun violence.
