Congressman Who Claims Evolution Is A Lie ‘From The Pit Of Hell’ To Run For Senate

U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, a Tea Party Republican representing the state of Georgia, is reportedly about to announce his run to fill the Senate seat recently-opened by the resignation of Saxby Chambliss — according to Broun’s wife.

“According to a blog post by Georgia GOP consultant Andrew O’Shea, Broun “took the stage and began discussing the usual/current problems in Washington: congressional gridlock, damage made to the Republican brand, as well as the lack of leadership coming from the West Wing,” The Hill reported:

After he finished his impromptu address, his wife, Niki Broun, told the crowd that he had her permission to run and that “he was openly announcing his candidacy” right there. Chambliss announced last week that he would be retiring at the end of his term, avoiding an expected primary challenge from the right and opening up his seat to a number of Republicans in the state considering the bid.

Broun has made a name for himself as a radical name-calling, ignorant anti-science theocrat.

In 2011, Rep. Broun spent the entire State of the Union “live-tweeting” his rather nasty impressions to all of his followers on Twitter, including tweeting, “Mr. President, you don’t believe in the Constitution. You believe in socialism.”

Broun then called President Obama a “domestic enemy,” chose to be one of 17 GOP Congressmen who sent a letter classifying Chick-Fil-A opponents as waging a “vicious smear campaign,” like one that  “would happen in Soviet Russia.”

But it was in September of 2012 that Broun’s masterpiece came to light.

Four-term Republican U.S. Congressman Rep. Paul Broun said he believes evolution, embryology and the Big Bang Theory are all “lies straight from the pit of hell” during a speech at the Liberty Baptist Church Sportsman’s Banquet in Hartwell, Georgia on September 27, 2012.
