Mat Staver‘s Liberty Counsel has rewritten the U.S. Constitution, transforming it into an anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-judicial, anti-pornography, anti-tax, pro-gun, pro-“traditional” family values, Christianist-only religion mandated, marriage of church and state. Titled, “The Declaration Of American Values,” it is a frightening, un-American, Christian extremist declaration of war on American values and anyone who is not a Christian-extremist, heterosexual, and Conservative. The Liberty Counsel is the hate-child of Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, and are very closely related.
The Declaration Of American Values, a ten-point plan to recreate the United States of America into a Christian version of Sharia Law, pointedly includes statements like, “We declare our allegiance” to “the unborn from the moment of conception,” and “the union of one man and one woman [is] the sole form of legitimate marriage and the proper basis of family.”
The Declaration also seeks “to secure the free exercise of religion for all people, including the freedom to acknowledge God through our public institutions and other modes of public expression and the freedom of religious conscience,” and want pornography outlawed, stating “obscenity, pornography, and indecency debase our communities, harm our families, and undermine morality and respect.”
While the Declaration claims it seeks to “secure the sanctity of human life by affirming the dignity of and right to life for the disabled, the ill, the aged, the poor, the disadvantaged,” it demands “the individual right to own, possess, and use firearms as central to the preservation of peace and liberty.” Because there’s nothing like protecting “the sanctity of human life” by ensuring everyone has a gun.

The Liberty Counsel has raised its profile over the past year, doing pro-bono work on cases like the one attempting to overturn New York’s same-sex marriage law. Liberty Counsel also represented Dakota Ary, the Texas anti-gay Christian high school freshman who received a two-day detention after announcing in his German class that “homosexuality is wrong,” and Florida teacher Jerry Buell, the teacher who wrote on Facebook that same sex marriage almost made him throw up.
Apparently, “Liberty” only applies to those who attempt to oppress.
