Chris Matthews’ Attack On GOP Chair And Romney’s Racism And Birtherism Goes Viral

Chris Matthews told GOP Chairman Reince Priebus that Mitt Romney, Priebus, and the GOP are playing the race card and attacked them for Romney’s birther joke on Friday, calling it “garbage” and “insane.” Matthews, a long-time MSNBC anchor, this morning appeared on “Morning Joe” to deliver his message, which at times earned him applause from the bipartisan panel. Priebus claimed Obama’s policies are “European,” and thus he deserves the attacks he’s getting from the GOP. The video is now going viral on both liberal and conservative sites.

“It just seems funny that the first joke he ever told in his life was about Obama’s birth certificate,” Matthews said as he slammed Priebus for Romney’s birther attack on Friday.

“That cheap shot about ‘I don’t have a problem with my birth certificate’ was awful,” Chris Matthews told Priebus. “It is an embarrassment to your party to play that card. This stuff about getting rid of the work requirement for welfare is dishonest, everyone’s pointed out it’s dishonest and you are playing that little ethnic card there. And you can play your games and giggle about it, but the fact is your side is playing that card. When you start talking about work requirements, we know what game you’re playing, and everybody knows what game you’re playing, it’s a race card.”

The MSNBC host was livid over Mitt Romney’s recent birth certificate joke, and false claims that Obama ended work requirements for welfare.

“That cheap shot … was awful,” Matthews said, referring to the joke. “It is an embarrassment to your party to play that card … you are playing that ethnic card there.” As Priebus apparently laughed and co-host Joe Scarborough tried to get a word in, Matthews continued, “you can sit there and giggle about it, but the fact is your party is playing that card.”

“You think Mitt Romney’s playing the race card?” Scarborough asked.

“There’s no doubt he did,” Matthews said. Co-host Mika Brzezinski speculated that Romney may have said what he said because he is an “awkward joker.”

Priebus said Matthews was just trying to “push his brand” with his “monologue.”

Of course, the radical, right wing Tea Party site NewsBusters called Matthews “unhinged,” and said it was “a good reason why members of the GOP avoid MSNBC.”

And the conservative Washington Examiner ran a piece titled, “MSNBC’s Chris Mathews loses his mind in Tampa.”
