Chick-Fil-A Gets Dumped By Kermit The Frog
Chick-Fil-A just got dumped by Kermit The Frog and the hundreds of other characters over at The Jim Henson Company, who are cutting ties with the $4.5 billion Christian fast food retailer over the restaurant giant’s positions on same-sex marriage and LGBT civil rights.
The announcement was made by the 54-year old company that used to be named Muppets, Inc., via a note on their Facebook page:
The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD.
The Henson Company was providing toys, “Jim Henson Creature Puppets,” for Chick-Fil-A kids’ meals.
Will NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, and the American Family Association now boycott Henson properties? Will Fraggle Rock be persona non grata? Will the anti-gay hate groups boycott Sesame Street — which isn’t technically isn’t part of Henson? Will the Family Research Council claim Muppets — also no longer Henson — are off-limits? Will we see an entire generation of home-schooled youngsters hostile to Kermit, Miss Piggy, The Dark Crystal, and The Skrumps?
We’ve reached out to GLAAD and will update you when we get their response.
